Everybody grab your marshmallows - it's a shit show
"We've conquered covid. Now it's time to come on back." A month later and the next wave hit so we're back out. Shit. Show.
"While these measures are not always convenient, they have helped us return to in-person classes and events in a way that keeps our campus safe."
Safety has nothing to do with this. We have been able to return to in-person classes and events because you consider your employees expendable.
How much talent do we have to lose before someone in a position of power figures out we're not coming back to the office? FFS. How are these people still employed at this level of incompetence?
"Some of the FWA challenges include a significantly reduced campus life and activity, ease of collaboration, home office equipment needs, and isolation from campus life." I don't interact with campus when I'm physically present regardless and I have better equipment at home than at the office.
"We are working with management to address these challenges as we continue to refine this program, however, please remember that a vibrant campus is conducive to student recruitment, support, and engagement." As I said, my physical presence does not impact the fact that I don't interact with campus. I'm just pissed off while I'm not interacting with it if I'm physically present.
"Additionally, many of our local restaurants and businesses rely on WSU for their success as well." Translated: The University makes a lot of money back in parking, vending machines, and other services so expect to drag your ass back here so we can steal that money back from you. Also, I already actively supported more than one business through the pandemic when we were all 100% remote so I don't care about this either.
So, while supervisors design schedules that best meet the needs of their departments and its employees, we must remember that flexibility on everyone’s part will also help us to be our best for our students." It's amazing how often 'flexibility' is thrown around when the university wants us to shut up and do what it tells us.
Only Wayne State could take six months to figure out the policies that we actively worked under for two years.
And then fuck it up. We're already losing talent by forcing people back three days a week of their choice. Now our best idea is to force them ALL back university wide on one day, department wide on another day, and one user choice day. WTF is wrong with this place. We've lost three people in the last month - three good people, productive people - and it's going to get worse. Fuck this place.
And now this gem: No snow days for you.
So working from home is fine when it's in your interest. Good to know. Fuck you.
